Memorial Description

Screen dividing tower from nave, comprising plain single side panels with carved top and double central door. Over the door, right along the top, is the quotation "Dulce et . . . " carved to stand proud in Gothic lettering. The dedication is similarly carved, and runs above the double doors. The names are incised on the doors themselves, in Gothic script.

The screen was made and erected by the disabled ex-servicemen, under the supervision of Ex-Sergeanr J. Bell, while undergoing treatment at the Dunstan Hill After Care Home, Dunstan-on-Tyne, 1920.

Notes

1. In 1914, it was thought that a memorial in the form of a hall would be suitable, and funds were sought. However, as time went by, they found this was too big a scheme, and they had to wait. In the meantime, some people indicated their disapproval of a memorial hall being used for dances, so this screen was erected instead. Afterwards, the new extension was added to the village hall, and named the Victory Hall. See W38.08
