Memorial Description

Organ, 3-rank extension.
Plaques in a wood frame 4 feet 3 inches high x 6 feet wide (1.29m x 1.82m) with fluted top, very plain, underneath a pedimented top which bears the school badge in colour. The dedication is on a narrow plate fixed to the top border. To this are attached 5 plaques, each 3 feet 3 inches high x 8 inches wide (991mm x 203mm) which bear the names in a single column on each in painted Roman capitals.

The organ builders were Vincent Organ Co., Sunderland.

Notes

1. The plaques had been attached to the organ in the other part of the school. The organ had been destroyed or broken up by 1988. It was last seen in pieces in a church hall, and is probably now lost.

2. A girl from this school was saved from the wreck of the City of Benares which was sunk by enemy action in Sep. 1940.

3. A photograph taken earlier by Simon Raine shows the memorial looking totally different. It is set on a white wood frame with crenellated pedimented top with the school badge at the centre in full colour. The panels are also divided by the white framework.
