Memorial Description

Stained Glass Window
Plaque 4 feet high x 2 feet 6 inches wide. It is set in a fluted marble frame 10 inches wide. On the main plaque there is a wide border of string design culminating in squares at the corners, all raised in half relief. The names are listed in two columns divided by a vertical line. Lettering is in raised elongated Roman capitals for the dedication and sans serif capitals for the names.

Notes

1. Journal 19/05/2008 reports Mike Christopher accidentally finding notebooks written by Arthur S. Witherington, named on this memorial, and eventually publishing them under the title of “Whizz-bangs, Boche and Woolly Bears”. The notebooks were Lieut. Witherington’s personal accounts of active service from 1914-18. He served with Territorial Force (3rd Northumbria County of Durham Brigade) Royal Field Artillery in France, Belgium and Germany.
