Unveiled 16th August 1925 by Major-General F.A. Dudgeon C.B., general officer commanding 50th (Northumbrian) Division; dedicated by the Bishop of Durham.

Memorial Description

Floor plaque with seat, total height 7 feet 2 inches x 6 feet 2 inches wide (Faculty gives 6 feet 6 inches x 6 feet). It has a dome at centre top. There are two shelves for vases. The centre panel at the back has the D.L.I. badge at centre top and carries the dedication. Two outer panels carry the battle honours.

Notes

1. This is the Battalion Church. There are some very old banners on display: “Two tattered flags , dating back from 1804, reminiscent of the Loyal Stockton Volunteers in the Napoleonic Wars”.

2. The 5th Batt. is the only battalion in the regiment to have laid up their colours in their own Parish Church. All other regiments laid theirs up in Durham Cathedral.
