Notes

1. 2nd Lt. George Ward Gunn was born in Muggleswick. It was the home of his grandparents. It is thought he was born there while his parents' home at Neston in Cheshire was being built. He grew up in Neston and attended Sedbergh Boarding School in Cumbria. After the war he was remembered by the endowment of a bed in the local cottage hospital. When the hospital closed, the plaque recording the endowment was transferred to the local church. Gunn Grove was named after him. His picture hangs in the Royal British Legion club.

2. To celebrate the centenary of his birth, Muggleswick Church held a two day event on June 30th-July 1st 2012. The printed Church Service is below.

3. 2nd Lt. Gunn's medal is displayed at Royal Artillery Museum in Woolwich, London.

4. It is thought that Major Philip Gunn died as the result of an accident.
