Plaque 1914-18 St. Luke's Chapel
Plaque, 2 feet high by 1 foot wide, on a wooden pattress. An art deco design on the left hand side and across the top features the trunk and branch of a tree. Lettering is in elongated Roman capitals with the quotation in Gothic.
1. This was in St. Luke's Chapel, Hepscott, which was demolished. The plaque was then placed in St. James' Church, Morpeth, but was returned to Hepscott when the former school was made into the Village Hall.
2. The Hepscott Heritage Group have researched the name of John Oliver, named on the memorial as serving with the King's Own Scottish Borderers, but no connection can be found for such a person. There is no obvious reference in the CWGC files or in
"Soldiers Died in the Great War".
3. The Hepscott Heritage Group cannot find any reason for the inclusion of the name of John William Strong on this memorial. His Every Name A Story entry is in Newbiggin. See
Strong, J.W., Gnr., 1917
