Unveiled 11th November 1921 by Mr. George Bruce, dedicated by Rev. H.S. Stephenson, Rector of Gateshead.

Memorial Description

Roll of Honour 36 inches high x 24 inches wide (914mm x 609mm) behind glass in elaborate wood frame 44 inches high x 32 inches wide (1.11m x 812mm). There is a border of leaves with the two top corners bearing a wreath. At centre top is a crown with flags on each side. The names are listed in four columns divided by vertical lines. Lettering is elaborate for the dedication and sans serif capitals for the names.

Notes

1. The firm was taken over by Bridon International, c1924, who are based at Willington Quay.

2. Mr. George Bruce, who unveiled the memorial, was the oldest employee of the firm. Now aged 84, he had worked for the firm for 60 years. His son was one of those killed who is named on the memorial.

3. During the war, a solders’ and sailors’ fund was inaugurated, to which workeds subscribed weekly, which raised almost £500.
