Lloyds Bank TSB Group Archives 25 Gresham Street, London, EC2V 7HN has a “Book of Remembrance” for 1914-18 which contains “Photographs of the members of the Directorate and Staff who lost their lives during the Great War 1914-1918”. This refers to Lloyds Bank. This includes a photograph of
R.M. Welch
who was attached to Gateshead branch.

In St. Mary’s Churchyard is the grave of John William Trotter who served on H.M.S. Leviathan at the Battle of Trafalgar.

In St. Edmund's Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

to the Memory of
Commander David Atkinson, R.N.
who had the honour of serving
his King and Country for 46 Years
and was present in H.M. Ship Theseus
at the Battle of the Nile
under the Immortal Nelson.
He died 12th March 1839
Aged 77 years.
This stone is erected
as a memorial
of a kind Husband,
an affectionate Father,
and a sincere Friend.
