Memorial Description

Two shepherd's hut wheels resting on a metal base. A shepherd's crook is leaning against one wheel. It is pierced by a hole which is carefully placed so that the sun will shine through onto one of the wheels at 11.00 am on the 11th November.
At the hob of one wheel there is a poppy plant with drooping heads, and a poppy flower with, at centre, a soldier is standing in silhouette beside a grave-marking cross.
At the hub of the second wheel is a circle containing the names of the fallen in raised lettering on a blue background.
The whole sits on a pile of stones.

Notes

1. Three themes are recognized. Firstly, to honour the fallen. Secondly, to acknowledge the
contribution to those who worked the land, including civilians; and thirdly to accept that people are still suffering through war today.

The "Every Name A Story" entry of most of these men can be found under Belsay or Longhirst.
