Memorial Description

Commemorative wall surrounding the former plaque NUT168 which has been moved to this new location. The new memorial is now in five parts.

Left is the Newcastle United Football Club badge in gilt.

The second part lists the names of those who fell in 1914-18.

The third part is the former panel NUT168 with an explanation below it.

The fourth part lists the names of those who fell in 1939-45.

The fifth part has a badge showing a football inside a wreath, again incised and gilded.
Lettering is incised using sans serif capitals incised and gilded.

Newcastle United's original war memorial was erected in 1920 following the / First World War and it is featured in the centre of this commemorative wall. / It lists the names of players and staff who served and died while at the club, / as well as a further 18 ex-players who also lost their lives during the conflict. / All 23 men to die are remembered next to the original memorial. / The Newcastle United players who died during the Second World War are / included in a dedicated panel. / We will never forget their sacrifice.
