Unveiled September 1920 by Rev. Canon Lillingston, Diocesan Minister.

Memorial Description

Plaque. It is dominated by an angel in half relief clasping a cross. Above her head are the words “For God, King and Country” followed by “In Memoriam” with a wreath on each side, one bearing the date “1914” and the other “1919”, all raised in half relief is Roman capitals.
The quotation is on the bottom border.

For God, King and Country. In Memoriam. In honour / of the men / from this ‘ church / who made / the supreme / sacrifice in / the Great War. The noble army of martyrs praise Thee, O God.

Notes

1. St. Hilda’s Church was made redundant and demolished. The parish was incorporated into St. Michael’s.

2. This memorial seems to have been replaced by S140.042 following the 1939-45 War.
