This tablet is erected / in token of deep and grateful appreciation / of the young men of this Church / Sunday School who served in the Great War / 1914-1919 / and in loving memory of the following / who died while on service.
"Greater love hath no man than this / that a man lay down his life for his friend"

Notes

1. The Memorial had been missing for over 25 years before it was given to Beamish. The Church had been demolished by 1947.

2. William Irwin, Lance N Bombardier 23rd RGA. Died 6/11/1918. Born at Tyne Dock son of Henry and Mary Irwin Wadham Terrace. Pte Anthony Robson age 19, 2nd Batt York regt, died May 1917. Son of Sarah Jane Robson, 28 William Black Street, Jarrow are some of the names on this Memorial. However further research is needed.
