Notes

1. This street shrine is similar to others except that this one was at first floor level.

2. 30 men enlisted for the Navy, of whom 5 were killed.
125 enlisted for the army, of whom 39 fell.
5 honours were gained by men serving in the army.

3. An advertisement in the Shields Daily Gazette reads: “Mrs. A. Douglas and Mrs. Pringle wish to thank Mrs. Medley and Mrs. Pearson, also Mr. H.R. Laing for their smart work in connection with the Waterloo Vale Roll of Honour."

4. One of the names is wrongly given as J.F. Pearce, which should be Gnr. James Harry Pearce. See Every Name a Story

5. In 1930 the memorial “Which suffered defacement through the inclement weather, last winter, has been restored in a fitting manner, by the efforts of the Ward Councillor, Fred Wood, and a number of friends.”
