Memorial Description

Pew end carved with a badge or family crest on one side and the statement below.
On the reverse is a carved scroll bearing the initials of four grandsons.
All lettering is in sans serif capitals.

Notes

1. “Since the war began several handsomely carved pew heads have been given to the church in memory of the dead, and one of the relates to four of Captain William Christopher’s great-great grandsons, all of whom were killed in the short space of eight weeks.
Captain Christopher was a distinguished commodore of the Hudson Bay Company’s fleet, and the communion rails and pillars supporting the Holy Table in the church were made from drift oak picked up by him when he sailed with Captain Cook on the his third and last voyage around the world.”
