Waldy, C.T., 2nd Lieut., 1914

On Le Touret Memorial is the name of Second Lieutenant Cuthbert Temple Waldy, serving with the South Lancashire Regiment who died 20/10/1914.

An unidentified newscutting reads:

2nd Lieutenant Cuthbert Temple Waldy, 2nd Battn. The Prince of Wales’s Volunteers South Lancashire Regiment, was born at Horsley, Woodhouse, Derby, on 31st August 1891, the son of the late Rev. Arthur G. Waldy, M.A., Priest, Rector of Yarm, and of Mrs. Waldy.

He was educated at Marlborough College and was gazetted to the Special Reserve of Officers in August 1912. In August 1914, he was attached to the 3rd Battalion York and Lancashire Regiment and in October joined the 2nd South Lancashire Regiment.

He was killed in action at Lorgies, near La Bassee, on the 29th October 1914. Before the war he had been employed by Messrs. Huntley and Palmers Biscuit Factory, Reading. He was a Lieutenant in the Church Lads’ Brigade.

Cuthbert Temple Waldy is remembered in Yarm on Y1.03, Y1.04 and Y1.06
