Richardson, M., Pte., 1916
On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 2168 Private Mark Richardson, serving with the 1/5th Northumberland Fusiliers who died 14/11/1916.

Julie Famelton has provided the following:

He was born in Alnwick, his family moved to White House for his father to work at the quarry. Mark worked there as a labourer after finishing school at Fontburn.

He joined the Territorial Army on 5th August 1914, and was transferred to the Northumberland Fusiliers in 1916. He was 5’ 4 inches tell with a 35 inch chest. He was killed in the Battle of Ancre, which was near the end of the Battle of the Somme.

Mark Richardson is remembered in Fontburn on F48.01 and F48.02 and in Netherwitton on N6.03
