Proudlock, I., L/Cpl., 1917
In the Hooge Crater Cemetery, Belgium, is the Commonwealth War Grave of Lance Corporal 24828 Isaac Proudlock serving with the 8th Battalion King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry who died 29/09/1917.

Colin McMillan has provided the following:

In 1891 Isaac Proudlock was the 2 year old eldest son of 29 year old general labourer Lewis Proudlock and Scottish born 29 year old Jane Proudlock. Isaac had only one sibling, 1 year old John T Proudlock, and the family was one of several whose address was given as Lorbottle Cottage, near Whittingham in Northumberland where Lewis and his two sons were born.

By 1901 the family had moved to Bowsden, a small village south of Berwick upon Tweed. Their address was given as North of the Road No.6. Lewis, now a gamekeeper, appears to have remarried and his new wife, Grace, was born in Lowick. Also, Lewis and his two oldest children were recorded as born in Rothbury. The family had now been joined by 9 year old Clement and 5 year old Jane (daughter of Grace), both of whom were born in Lowick.

By 1911 Isaac, now 21, had left home and was boarding with the Jobson family at Roddam Rigg House, Wooperton, Alnwick. He was employed as a gamekeeper.

Isaac is recorded as having married Mary J Ferguson, a farm servant from Chevington, during the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1915.

He was killed in action on 29th September 1917 and was posthumously awarded the Victory and British War Medals.

Isaac Proudlock is remembered in Mitford on M12.01, in Lowick on L37.01
