In Mitford (St.Mary Magdalene) Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 945426 Sergeant (Air Gunner) George Henry Elliott serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 01/04/1942.

The headstone reads:

In loving memory of
Serg. George H. Elliott R.A.F.V.R.
Who died on active service
April 1st 1942, aged 29 years.

Sgt. Elliott was serving in 20 O.T.U. He was a crew member of Wellington IC R1760 JM-X which took off from Lossiemouth on a night bombing and cross country training exercise. A propeller came off and the aircraft came down in Cruden Bay. Three men died and three were injured. One of these was Sgt. Elliott who died from his injuries.
