Notes

1. There was dispute over whether the memorial should be inside the church or outside.

2. “Granite block … will be unveiled on Sunday. The memorial has been placed in the shade of a tree which had been planted 20 years earlier as a “living” memorial to those who died. The stone was bought from public subscription after the vicar, the Rev. John Richardson, made an appeal in June resulting from a visit by the British Legion the previous year “when there was no-where for them to place a wreath.” The memorial will be unveiled by The Squire, Colonel J.P. Mitford, or by his son Brigadier E.C. Mitford. Journal 27/09/1969, page 10.
