Simon Glancey reports that Sgt. (Pilot) Collyer was serving with No.72 Sqn, Acklington. He was the pilot of Spitfire IIa P8231 which crashed into the sea 4 miles North of Farne Islands. It is believed to have been shot down by return fire from a Ju88.

He is remembered in Chevington on C27.03 which carries no names but the list was included on the Unveiling Programme.
