On the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France, is the name of 21/438 Private William Arrel, serving with the 21st (Tyneside Scottish) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 01/07/1916.

Morpeth Herald 25/08/1916 carries a brief obituary:

Mrs Arrell [sic], of Bridge Street, Seaton Burn, has been notified that her son Pte. W. Arrell [sic], N.F., has been killed in France.

He was the son of Annie Arrel, of 5, Bridge Street, Seaton Burn, and the late Thomas Arrel.

He is remembered at Seaton Burn on S88.01
