Michael was born on 24th March 1894. He was working as a miner living with his father, James at 25, Drydens Buildings, Bertram Place, Shiremoor when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 1st December 1914.
He joined the Howe Battalion on 18th July 1915 and was posted as missing assumed killed in action in France on 13th November 1916.
Michael Mather is remembered in Backworth on B1.03 page 3, in Earsdon on E3.02 and E3.03 and in Shiremoor on S21.01
