In Tynemouth (Preston) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Second Hand James Wood, serving with the Royal Naval Reserve who died 21/04/1917.

The headstone reads:

In loving memory
of
James
Beloved husband of
Jane I. Wood
killed on active service on H.M. Minesweeper
“Ruthin Castle”
April 21st 1917, aged 35 years.

“Thy will be done”.

He is remembered in North Shields on N34.22 and on our List of Ships’ crews
