Jacqueline M. Walton (nee Stoker) has written to say:

"Robert (Bob) was my Uncle, my Dad’s older brother. Bob did indeed serve in the Black Watch, I have the last letter he ever wrote home. As with most of the soldiers at the front he took turns writing to family. It just happens that the week he was injured and died was the week he wrote to my Mum and Dad.

I was also told by a cousin that Bob was injured and taken to a hospital station. By coincidence his Sister’s husband was serving as an orderly. He was told by a colleague that a ‘Geordie’ from his neck of the woods had been brought in, in quite a bad way. Although he was off duty, he made his way over to where Bob was, Bob briefly regained consciousness and spoke with his brother in law. He passed away during the night.

Bob left a wife and two young children".

He is remembered in Percy Main on P22.02
