G. Stuart
Stoker 1st Class. RN.SS/105798
H.M.S. “Undaunted”
12th November 1915

He resided at 5 Reliance Place, Sheffield.

The Coroner's Court report 12/11/1915 number 500 quotes:

“Found hanged in a bath room on board H.M.S. Undaunted at 5.10am on Friday 12th Nov 1915, having hanged himself whilst in a depressed state of mind.”

The Newcastle Journal Saturday 13/11/1915 carried a report:

An inquest was held in Newcastle last night by Mr Alfred Appleby, City Coroner, respecting the death of George Stuart, a stoker, of 5 Reliance Place, Sheffield. The evidence showed that early yesterday morning Stuart was found hanging by the neck in the stokers' bathroom in his ship, which at present lying in the Tyne. The other end of the rope was attached to a water-pipe. The man had previously admitted to the doctor that he had been drinking heavily. A verdict of 'Suicide whilst in a depressed state of mind' was returned.
