Wilson, J., A/Smn., 1917
In New Irish Farm Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, is the Commonwealth War Grave of Tyneside Z/8980 Able Seaman John Wilson, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 31/10/1917.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

John was born on 17th January 1893. He was working as a shoe maker living with his mother, Jane at 3, St. Georges Terrace, Cullercoats when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 10th December 1915.

He joined the Drake Battalion in France on 12th December 1916. He went sick on 25th January 1917 and then rejoined the Drake Battalion on 6th February 1917.

On 18th March 1917 John suffered an injury to his left heel for which he was invalided to the UK on 10th April 1917.

He rejoined the Drake Battalion in Belgium on 27th September 1917 and was killed in action on the 31st October 1917.

John Wilson is remembered in Cullercoats on C68.01 and in Tynemouth on T36.14 page 29.
