In Whitley Bay Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:
Treasured
memories of
my dear Dad & Mam
Edward Beales
lost at sea Nov. 1942
Gladys Muriel Beales
died Nov. 17th 1959
aged 55 years.
The date on the headstone is incorrect. S.S. East Wales was sunk 16th December 1942.
Edward Beales is remembered in Seaton Sluice on S9.01 and on our List of Ships’ crews
