Lister, W., A/Smn., 1919
In Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille is the Commonwealth War Grave of Tyneside Z/1032 Able Seaman William Lister, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 06/01/1919.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

William was born on 4th May 1890. He was working as a miner living with his parents, William and Mary at 9, Office Row, East Holywell when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 2nd November 1914.

>William joined the 4th Platoon, "A" Company of the Collingwood Battalion on 4th February 1915, transferred to the Hood Battalion on 8th June 1915 and served until he was hospitalised with Diarrhoea on 25th August 1915.

He rejoined the Hood Battalion on 5th October 1915 and was kicked on the leg by a horse which necessitated him being invalided to the UK on 28th June 1916.

He joined the Anson Battalion in France on 9th February 1917 and was invalided again to the UK suffering from an injury to his right foot. He rejoined the Anson Battalion on 26th July 1918 and was posted as missing, prisoner of war on 26th August 1918. William was repatriated on 17th December 1918 and died from the effects of a gun shot wound to the right leg which fractured his femur at 8th Stationary Hospital at 2.30 am on 6th January 1919.

William was the older brother of John Hall Lister

William Lister is remembered in Holywell on H67.07, in Backworth on B1.03, and in Earsdon on E3.02 and E3.03
