In Ovillers Military Cemetery, Somme, France, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 23/482 Sergeant John Hood, serving with the 23rd (Tyneside Scottish) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 01/07/1916.

Morpeth Herald 02/03/1917 carries a brief obituary:

Mrs J. Hood, 18 John Street, Earsdon, has received official news that her husband, Sergeant John Hood, has been killed in action. He had been missing since July 1st.

He is remembered in Earsdon on E3.01, E3.02 and E3.03
