On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 20/1610 Private Martin Watson, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 01/07/1916.

In Earsdon (St. Alban) Churchyard is a family headstone which reads:

dearly beloved husband of Sarah Mole
of Earsdon
who died May 5th 1883 aged 28.
Martin (T.S.) their son
fell in action July 1st 1916, aged 37
John W. (N.F.) their son
died in Salonica Dec. 15th 1917, aged 34.
John R. Mole
died Sept. 1st 1928 aged 72.
and Sarah Jane, his beloved wife
who died July 26th 1935 aged 76.

Martin was the brother of John William Watson

Morpeth Herald 27/04/1917 carries a brief obituary

Private Martin Watson, New Square, Seghill, missing since July 1st, is now presumed to have been killed in action.

He is remembered in Backworth on B1.03 page 6 and in Earsdon on E3.02 and E3.03
