In 1912, John Riseborough married Edith Alberta Endean, from the family of sculptors in the village. She died in 1967 aged 86.

On 20th July 2016, in St. Nicholas' Church, the bellringers rang a quarter peel of plain bob doubles to mark the centenary of John Riseborough's death.
He is also mentioned in "Notes on names of Bellringers from the North East of England. Extracted from a Roll of Honour of Bellringers in St. Paul’s Cathedral, London.

John Riseborough is remembered in Cramlington on C60.01 and C60.03 and at Newcastle-upon-Tyne on NUT098
