On the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France is the name of 1849 Corporal Leslie Wood, serving with the 1st/5th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 11/09/1916.

Morpeth Herald 29/09/1916 carries a brief obituary:

Mr and Mrs Wood, of Hastings Street, Cramlington, have received official word that their son, Corporal Leslie Wood, N.F., was killed in action on September 11th. He was well known as a runner, and won many prizes at Northern flower show handicaps.

He is remembered at Cramlington on C60.03 and as Cpl. L.H. Wood on C60.01
