On the Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais, France, is the name of 15723 Private John Thompson, serving with the 8th Battalion Somerset Light Infantry, who died 25/09/1915.

He was the son of Jane Ann Thompson, of 9, Handyside Place, Shankhouse, Cramlington, and the late John Thompson.

Morpeth Herald 19/11/1915 carries a brief obituary:

Pte. John Thompson, Somerset Light Infantry, of Shankhouse, has been killed in action.

He is remembered in Cramlington on C60.01 and C60.03
