Rolt, T.C., AC1, 1944
On the Runnymede Memorial is the name of 1681468 Aircraftman 1st Class Thomas Callaghan Rolt, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who died 07/07/1944.

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:

A.C.1 Rolt was killed when Fighter Direction Tender 216 was torpedoed by a Junkers Ju-88 in the Bay of Biscay at 00.59. Five crew, including Rolt, were killed, but over 200 survivors were rescued by H.M.S. Burdock before the tender was deliberately sunk at 02.25. FDT 216 was regarded as a risk to navigation and was deliberately sunk by friendly fire under the glare of searchlights. Sadly five RAF radar crew were lost in this action - 1565310 AC1 J H Ferguson RAFVR, 1036266 LAC J Gaughan RAFVR, 1001089 Cpl G Logan RAFVR, 1434174 LAC R J Peckham MID RAFVR and 1681468 AC1 T C Rolt RAFVR.

Thomas Callaghan Rolt is remembered in Blyth on B42.05, B42.15 and B42.23
