In memory of William
Killed at sea
One of England's heroes.
He died that we might live.

HMT Loch Doon (Skipper George Henry Alexander Thompson, RNR) was mined east of Blyth on the 25th December 1939. The field had been laid on the 20th December 1939 by the German U-Boat U-22 commanded by Kapitänleutnant Karl-Heinrich Jenisch, there were 16 dead in the sinking.
