Jackson, W., 1914-18 watch returned
The residents of Carrshield gave the men who returned a plated gold watch in recognition of their service. One of these has been found in a box of possessions. It is inscribed “The Great War / 1914-1918/ ?given by the inhabitants of / Carrshield and District / Pte. Wesley Jackson / 51st N.F.”.

It is thought that it was pawned by the owner to pay for goods when he was hard up.

The present owner would like to return the watch to Pte. Jackson’s family.

Acknowledgments Roger Morris.

The Hexham Courant 06/09/2014 and 10/10/2014 carry the report.

The 10/10/2014 edition reports that the watch which was presented to Private Wesley Jackson who had served with the Northumberland Fusiliers in 1914-18 had been returned to his family.

It seems that Mr. Jackson must have given the watch to John Tweddle of Haltwhistle who ran a drapery business in return for goods.

Wesley Jackson’s name is on the school memorial in Carrshield on C12.01
