Robson, R.W., AM1., 1917
In Bois Guillaume Communal Cemetery Extension is the Commonwealth War Grave of 21451 Air Mechanic 1st Class Robert William Robson, serving with the Royal Flying Corps, who died 18/05/1917.

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:

A.M.1 Robson was the Observer in Airco DH-4 A7408 of 55 Squadron, flown by Captain A. T. Greg, which was shot down while returning from a mission to bomb an ammunition dump at Boue and factory at Lechelle on April 23rd 1917. The DH-4 was one of a formation of eight from 55 Squadron, plus five Martinsydes of 27 Squadron, escorted by four Nieuports of 29 Squadron. The formation was attacked by 10 Albatros fighters of Jasta 12 and Jasta 26. Hit by enemy fire which killed Greg, and and which wounded A.M.1 Robson, he nevertheless managed to bring A7408 back to Allied lines, where he crash-landed the damaged aircraft near St Quentin. Sadly he died of his wounds on May 18th.
