Eastham, J.H., Pte., 1916
In Le Treport Military Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 11485 Private James Henry Eastham serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 06/10/1916.

Susan Carmichael has provided the following:-

James Henry was born in the 2nd quarter of 1893, in Stobswood, Northumberland. He was the son of James Henry and Margaret Eastham who were originally from Lancashire. His father was from Pendleton, Salford, and his mother from Westhoughton.

James and Margaret, with their first two children moved, according to the 1891 census, to Stobswood Colliery, Ulgham, Northumberland. James’s father was a coal miner.

In 1901 the family lived in Chevington Colliery, East Chevington, Morpeth. James and Margaret now had six children, and James was still working as a coal miner.

The census of 1911 shows that James’s mother had died, and his father, and five of his children were living at 19 East Terrace, Stakeford, Choppington, Bedlington.

James Henry was now working as a pony putter in the coal mine. The family also had a servant for household domestic duties, widow Mary Langton.

James Henry Eastham is remembered in Stakeford on S71.02 and in West Sleekburn on W34.01
