Dawson, E., A/Smn., 1917
On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of Tyneside Z/1781 Able Seaman Edward Dawson, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 04/02/1917.

A page in the Roll of Honour in St. Bartholomew's Church, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea states that he was born in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea in 1882, the son of William Dawson of 6 Moor View. Edward was a miner.

He enlisted into the Benbow Battalion of the RND on 13th November 1914.

He transferred to "A2 Company 4th Platoon of the Hood Battalion on 12th June 1915.

He was reported missing, presumed killed on 4th February 1917.
