Rowell, J.F., A/Smn., 1915
In Skew Bridge Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Tyneside Z/1215 Able Seaman John Forster Rowell, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 30/06/1915.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

John was born on 22nd July 1895. He was working as a miner living with his parents, Thomas and Alice at 8, Maitland Terrace, Newbiggin-By-The-Sea when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 2nd November 1914.

John joined the Hawke Battalion on 20th February 1915 and died of wounds in the 2nd Casualty Clearing Station in Gallipoli on 30th June 1915.

John Forster Rowell is remembered in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea on N10.03 and N10.14
