On the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France, is the name of 14550 Private George Henry Sands, serving with the 9th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 07/07/1916.

Morpeth Herald 02/03/1917 carries a brief obituary:

Private G.H. Sands, 11 Buteland Terrace, Newbiggin, missing since July 1st, is now reported killed in action.

He is remembered at Newbiggin on N10.06 and N10.14
