In Rhodes War Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 4464054 Corporal Samuel Clarke, serving with the Durham Light Infantry who died 27/09/1943.

In Newbiggin (St. Bartholomew's) Churchyard is a family headstone which reads:

In loving memory of
C/Pl. Samuel Clarke
No. 4464054 B. Company 1st Batt. D.L.I.
dearly beloved son of
Hannah and the late Philip Clarke
who fell in action whilst serving with
the Mediterranean Forces Sept. 27th 1943
aged 31 years.
Also the above Hannah
who died July 21st 1955
aged 68 years
Always remembered.
