In Newbiggin (St. Bartholomew) Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 3041184 Sgt (Air Gunner) Thomas Aspin, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 30/07/1944.

The headstone reads:

In loving memory of
No. 3041184
Sergt. Thomas Aspin AG RAF
Beloved son of Thomas & Elizabeth Aspin
Killed in an air crash July 30th 1914 aged
19 years.
Also the above Thomas
Died May 18th 1970 aged 76 years
Always remembered.
