On the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France, is the name of 16/75 Private Allan Morton Herriott, serving with the 16th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 01/07/1916.

In Newbiggin (St. Bartholomew) Churchyard is a family headstone which reads:

In loving memory of
Hope
dearly beloved husband of
Emma Herriott
died June 2nd 1922, aged 67 years.
Also of Alan Morton Herriott 16th N.F.
their son, killed in action in France
July 1st 1916, aged 25 years

Morpeth Herald 22/09/1916 carries the following:

Private Alan [sic] M. Herriott, Newbiggin, has been killed.

Alan Morton Herriott is remembered at Newbiggin by the Sea as Herriot, A. on N10.03 and N10.14
