In Sailly-sur-la-Lys Canadian Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 9951 Serjeant James Sampson, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 09/12/1915.

In Newbiggin (St. Bartholomew) Churchyard is a family headstone which reads:

Sacred
to the memory of
Jane Mary Sampson
died 23rd Dec. 1972
aged 87 years.
And of her dear husband
Sergt. James Sampson
11th Bn. N. Fus.
died of wounds received
in action 9th Dec. 1915
aged 37 years.
Also William Sampson
son of the above
ex Northld. Police
dearly loved husband of
Nellie
and father of Peter
died 22nd June 1992 aged 78 years.
Nellie Sampson
died 22nd Dec. 2010 aged 90 years.
