Flight Sgt. Herdman was killed when Douglas Dakota KN584 of 357 squadron was lost on a Special Duties flight over Burma. The Dakota hit the side of a mountain, killing all four crew and twelve passengers.
He is remembered in Bedlington on B15.13 and at Newbiggin-by-the-Sea on N10.04, N10.13 and N10.14
