Dodds, M., A/Smn., 1918
On the Arras Memorial is the name of Tyneside Z/2793 Able Seaman Marmaduke Dodds, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 25/03/1918.

A page in the Roll of Honour in St. Bartholomew's Church, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea states that he was born on 21st July 1896 at Newbiggin. He was a miner, and lived with this father John at 10 Westfield Crescent, Newbiggin-by-the Sea.

He enlisted into the Howe Battalion on 2nd January 1915. Following treatment for a gunshot wound to the jaw he joined the 7th Entrenching Battalion on 14th March 1918.

Marmaduke was killed on 25th March 1918.

The same source says that he is buried in Fourcaux Wood (also known as "High Wood") but the CWGC entry states that his name appears on the Arras memorial, indicating that he has no known grave.
