In St. Bartholomew Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Tyneside Z/1234 Able Seaman J.T. Dodds, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 18/04/1920.

The headstone reads:

loving memory
of
John Thomasbeloved son of
John T. and Jane E. Dodds
of Newbiggin
who died April 18th 1920
aged 25 years
from the effects of gas poisoning
Late of the Drake Batt. A.B. R.N.D.
Peace perfect peace.
