In St. John's Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 4444552 Corporal John Hall, serving with the Durham Light Infantry who died 21/12/1942.

The headstone reads:-

In loving memory of
John
beloved husband of Jane Ann Hall
died of wounds received in action
serving with the D.L.I. on Dec. 21st
1942 aged 36 years

He is remembered at Hirst on H62.02 and H62.04 and possibly elsewhere in the area.
