Morpeth Herald 30/03/1917 carries a brief obituary:
Private John Middlemiss, 5 Melrose Terrace, Bedlington Station, killed in action.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

John was born in Norham, Northumberland, in 1886 to Thomas and Mary Middlemiss. His father was a farm labourer who worked on several farms in this area, and John became a farm labourer like his father. In 1908 Mary died and this seems to be when Thomas and his sons moved to Bedlington. The 1911 census shows the family living at Melrose Terrace and John and his father were colliery labourers. John enlisted in the 23rd (Tyneside Scottish) Northumberland Fusiliers, and died during the Arras offensive.

He is remembered in Bedlington Station on B163.04 and possibly in Bedlington on B15.06
